Diploma in Counselling Psychology

This course prepares you to work directly with people who are going through emotional, psychological, or social challenges. In Kenya today, issues like stress, family conflict, substance abuse, and mental health struggles are becoming more visible — and there is a growing need for trained professionals who can listen, guide, and support others in a structured and ethical way.

At St. Mary’s, the training is not limited to theory. You are gradually introduced to real-life counselling situations — how to sit with a client, how to listen without judging, and how to guide conversations in a way that helps someone make sense of what they are going through. Over time, you build confidence in handling sensitive situations while maintaining professionalism.

The program follows the TVET CDACC competency-based approach, meaning you are assessed on your ability to demonstrate counselling skills, not just explain them. You will practice techniques, engage in supervised sessions, and learn how to apply different counselling approaches depending on the client’s needs.

This diploma is suitable for individuals who are naturally drawn to helping others, but also want to do it in a structured, professional way. It also opens pathways into more advanced studies or specialized areas within psychology and mental health.
