Artisan in Health Service Support

Level: Artisan
Duration: 2 terms

Unit Overview

The Artisan in Health Service Support course is an entry-level program designed for students who want to begin working in the healthcare sector through practical, hands-on skills. It focuses on the basic support roles that keep hospitals and health facilities running smoothly every day.

In real hospital settings, not every role is clinical. A lot of essential work happens behind the scenes — helping patients move around, maintaining cleanliness and order, supporting basic care services, and ensuring wards and clinics are well organized. This course prepares you to fit into that important support system.

At St. Mary’s, training is practical and closely linked to a functioning hospital environment. You learn by observing and participating in real service delivery situations. This helps you understand how health facilities operate on a day-to-day basis and how support staff contribute to patient care and service efficiency.

The program follows the TVET CDACC competency-based training model, meaning you are trained on specific tasks and assessed based on your ability to perform them in real or simulated healthcare environments. The focus is on building confidence, discipline, and basic professional skills in healthcare support work.
